Your monthly dump (of area concerts for Novembe, 2023)
Plus, Blink-182, back in Fresno one more time.
It’s November and there are plenty of live musical happenings this month.
Be thankful.
Fulton 55 in particular has loaded up its calendar, starting with a half-dozen or so not-to miss performances including:
Matt Pike’s heavy metal goliath High of Fire, which stops at the venue on Friday (Nov. 3) on a quick tour with Arkansas doom band Pallbearer. It’s been a decade or more since High on Fire last played Fresno.
A sting of really great blues (or blues-esque) bands, starting with Black Joe Lewis and Emily Wolfe (Texans, both), who perform Wednesday, Nov. 8. The next night (Nov. 9) Team Neville brings in the Laurie Morvan Band. The following Thursday (Nov. 16) venue hosts GA-20 and Duane Betts. The former is part of a growing traditional blues revival. The later is the son of Allman Brothers co-founder Dickey Betts.
What could be the standout show of the month (at least for old head indie-rock fans). Built to Spill plays Saturday, Nov. 11. The band should be well known especially in the South Valley, where they played fairly heavily in the mid 2010s. The show is being brought it by (((folkYEAH!))) and marks what we all should hope is a growing relationship with the venue.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, a late 2000s rock band I know little about, other than the fact that they come through town on a regular basis and always seem to get a good draw. They play Friday, Nov. 17 on a bill that has local support from Hillblocks View.
For the rest of the month’s concerts, I have put together another semi curated, and somewhat, but not entirely comprehensive list (grouped by week for sake of ease).

It’s been a half dozen years since Pierce the Veil has been through for a full amped up performance (though an acoustic set in March drew a large crowd). If you’re a fan who was late getting tickets, good new is the band is coming back next year (see below post RE: Blink-182).

Shorten week 5 (Nov. 26-30)
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was one of several bands with daddy in their name that broke through to the mainstream during the ’90s swing revival (OK, it might have been just the two, with Cherry Poppin’ Daddies being the other).
The band didn’t do “Zoot Suit Riot,” but it feature prominently on the “Swingers” soundtrack and perform at the Super Bowl in 1999 and is still continuing the jazz/swing revival 30 years on.
The band plays Tower Theatre Sunday, Nov. 26 on night two if its Wild and Swingin’ Holidat Party tour. Tickets are $45-$60.

Blink-182 tours One More Time at Fresno’s Save Mart Center
Blink-182 has been busy, between dropping and album, announcing plans for an upcoming tour, headline festivals and staging some kind of mini-concert/video shoot/viral moment inside a Denny’s because … meme nostalgia (is that a thing??).
Also you can do pretty much whatever you want if you’re Blink-182.
There was news for Fresno fans in all this. The band is returning to the Save Mart Center, July 8. Tickets went on sale Friday. They’ll cost you $46 (and up to $376 if you wanna get real close).
For many fans, the show may feel like a reunion of sorts. The last time Blink-182 was in town, it was sans Tom DeLong (Matt Skiba was on guitar/vocal duties).
Also of note: Pierce the Veil is opening this run for dates, which means the band will have played Fresno (in some form) three times with 12-ish months (see above).
That’s it for this week. Remember you can now hear me on the Homegrown Show Sundays at 8 p.m. on New Rock 104.1 FM. If you have anything you think I need to be looking at or listening to, feel free to let me know: jtehee@gmail.com
