On vacation ...
But here's a few things to tide you over.
I decided to take a vacation for the week.
I’ll be back with new stuff next Sunday. But, I couldn’t not give y’all something. So, here are a few things to tide you over.
It seems like I’m always pointing people to Valley Echoes. That’s because Laura Ramirez continues to put out content worth reading. This week she was “on the phone” with Lance Anderson, which seems like a pivot but only because I was introduced to him (in person anyway, if my mind serves) as a visual artist. He’s also a musician.
On a related note, there’s this video from Michael Faeth, a drummer who plays in Anderson’s band Buzzbomb Phase 4, among others. The video is just footage of a bike ride around the Tower District and downtown, but taken with the caption text, it becomes a sort of musical history tour.
This one is not technically local, but Bradley Dudeboy Rogers put me on to it and, it being about country music, some of the content is Valley specific (Bakersfield in the case of this post). Anyway, aside from making music, Zachariah Malachi is a good writer and historian. This is the kind of stuff I wish I was doing and maybe would be if I were in a different place. Maybe someday. (*shoulder shrug emoji*).
That’s it for this week. Remember you can also hear me on the Homegrown Show Sundays at 8 p.m. on New Rock 104.1 FM. Tonight, I’m in studio Lucky 13 Entertainment talking about next weekend’s Fresno punk fest. Tune in. Follow my other writing at The Fresno Bee. If you have anything you think I need to be looking at or listening to, feel free to let me know: jtehee@gmail.com.
