Mark you calendars for Porch Fest, Peso Pluma and the Stoneshiver Jamboree
Plus, Pryograph goes 'Hollywood' on new single.
Tower Porch Fest is the midst of finalizing its “official” lineup.
It’s a pretty informal process, but there are deadlines that have to happen to be sure everything comes together by April 27. Sign up for porches end this week, so if you have a spot to host or need a spot to play, you need to start figuring that out now.
Organizers are quickly flipping into publicity mode.
This week, they posted a Host Highlight with Jonny Quiroz, aka Johnny Q, who operates Love the Captive and has his hand a bunch of music happenings around town, including the Fulton Street Party.
The longtime promoter/scene supporter is curating a porch at 1345 N. Van Ness, which will include a performance from a reunited (or at least a reformed) Rademacher.
This is likely a one off for the band, but then, it did recently re-issue its early recordings to digital platforms, so … feel free to speculate on what it all means.
We will likely see other porch lineups start to leak out soon.
In other local music festival news, Stoneshiver announced a lineup for round four of its annual Stoneshiver Jamboree. The day-long music festival/hang-out party happens May 18 at the Historical Park in Kingsburg.
It’s a slightly larger lineup of bands than in past years and includes an out-of-town “headliner” in I Hate Kate.
I Hate Kate is the band formed by former Zebrahead front man Justin Mauriello in the 2000s. The band would later change its name to Darling Thieves, but seems to have changed it back(?) apparently. Mauriello is featured on Stoneshiver’s 2021 track “Cleopatra.”
The lineup also includes Stoneshiver, the John Clifton Blues Band, Macondo and New Old Man.
Self promotion time: New Old Man will play with a backing band that includes Victor Sotelo and Wade Krause of Sparklejet and Emelia Guadarrama, who plays with Sci-Fi Caper and the Sunnydales.
Tickets for the Stoneshiver Jamboree are on sale now.
In national concert news, Mexican corridos tumbados superstar Peso Pluma announced a set of dates for his Exodo tour.
The singer will hit some 35 cities through the summer, including Fresno. He performs Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Save Mart Center.
Tickets on sale now and will likely get pricey on the secondary market.
It’s the second time Peso Pluma has played Fresno in the last year. In March, he performed as an opening act at Chuckchansi Park. Within weeks, he would be a headliner.
This continues the trend of Fresno landing dates with top-tier Regional Mexican artists (and Latin performers more generally).
New music alert: ‘Hollywood,’ by Pyrograph
On Friday, March 1, Pyrograph drops “Hollywood,” the first of three singles it will be releasing in support of a full-length debut album.
The song is an expose, the band says, of the abuses of that happen in the entertainment industry.
“It’s a confrontation of the industry’s dark side — a sharpened scalpel that slices through the glittering surface of celebrity to expose the grimy underbelly that hides beneath masks of success.”
You can do the whole pre-save now thing on the band’s website.
That’s it for this week. Remember you can now hear me on the Homegrown Show Sundays at 8 p.m. on New Rock 104.1 FM. Tonight, I’m joined by Fresno music archivist Nate Butler. Follow my other writing at The Fresno Bee. If you have anything you think I need to be looking at or listening to, feel free to let me know: jtehee@gmail.com
