Five new local releases to put in your ears right now.
Bandgeeeek will be on hiatus next week. Don't freak out.
Bandgeeek is taking a quick vacation.
It will return at the end of the month, not to worry. In the meantime, here’s a few new releases to dig info.
Shallow Grave of Memory — Ryan Gregory Tallman
A new collection of a dozen electronic soundscapes (that move like songs) from the Fresno-based electronic composer and sound artist. Find it on Bandcamp now. Limited edition CD also available.
Miles the Boxer — Miles the Boxer
The self-titled album from Miles the Boxer could be labeled as Central Valley indie-core or some such. Meaning, the eleven songs feel cut from the same cloth that produced any number of Fresno indie bands in the past and are everything you would want in carrying on that tradition.
Out now across streaming platforms.
From Hell Ep — Hour 13
The five songs on From Hell are what you expect from a horror-theme psychobilly. Think Meteors, but with slightly less aggression. Included is a cover of “Wicked Game,” but sadly not its version of Turnstile’s “T.L.C.,” which they played at their EP release show on Thursday. It was wild.
Last Band Standing — Strike Twelve
Strike Twelve is a San Diego with Fresno ties (bassist Joe Treis has lived in town for awhile and the band has played gigs here). Last Band Standing is 14 songs of stupid-fun pop-punk. For fans of Blink-182. Album was released last month on Thousand Islands Records.
‘Sounds of Panic’ — Tower Rats
“Sounds of Panic” is the second in a trio of singles the Tower Rats will be releasing this summer. It’s something slightly popppier than the band’s first single “Carnivorous,” and almost moves into indie-rock territory, especially in the guitar tones. The song is out now on Bandcamp.
