MKC goes live in Palmdale for surprise album
Plus, Sun Umbra lands a spot on Wet Record and Cloud eyes a spot at Sonic Temple Festival.
MKC is rock-and-roll in pure, primal form.
While the band does do some genre switching, it’s all comes off with a sweaty, thrashed-around-all-night-on-drugs-and-free-love-and-radicalism vibe; frontman Rico Torres coming off like a punk-rock Prince (capital P) in his sway and swagger.
This is band not to be just heard, but experienced.
So, it feels right that they would eventually do a live album.
Released across platforms this week, “MKC Live in Palmdale” was taken from the band’s gig at Transplants Brewing Company last month. The eight song, multitrack soundboard recording does well to capture’s both the band’s rawness and nuance (especially when the guitars go into full solo mode).
This is the band’s first live release and its first with bassist Marcus Wells (who plays guitar in 1335). You can check out “All Power to the People,” below.
The band plays Feb. 25 at the Destructive Warehouse in an opening spot for Matamoska, with 1335, The Odd Advantage and an acoustic Iwanaga.
Sun Umbra joins Wet Records
Sun Umbra announced this week that it is now part of the Wet Records family of bands. The “non-genre specific” label is out of Oceanside and has a “heavy focus on on specialty vinyl.”
Think limited runs and test pressings.
So, while the band’s self-titled debut is getting an extra push across the label’s platforms, it is also getting a vinyl release, with limited run test pressing (signed by the band) up now on the label’s Bandcamp page.
On a related note, “Future,” the latest from Sun Umbra frontman Daniel Story Rice’s other project, is out Feb. 24 on Riding Easy Records.
How to help Cloudship on Sonic Temple’s Battle for the BigStage
Cloudship has put itself in the running for a spot at this year’s Sonic Temple’s Arts and Music Festival (which runs Memorial Day weekend in Cleveland Ohio and features headliners like Tool and Kiss and Foo Fighters, but also Jawbreaker and White Reaper and Starcrawler nd Bronx and …).
The band has made it to the sweet sixteen in a Battle for the Big Stage, which continues on at 3 p.m. today on TwitchTV.
It’s one of those watch and votes kind of deals, so tune in to help.
That’s it for this week. Remember you can now hear me on the Homegrown Show Sundays at 8 p.m. on New Rock 104.1 FM. If you have anything you think I need to be looking at or listening to, feel free to let me know: jtehee@gmail.com
